What are Home and Community Based (HCS) Services?
According to the Texas Department of Aging and Disability, “The Home and Community-based Services (HCS) program provides individualized services and supports to people with intellectual disabilities who are living with their families, in their own homes or in other community settings, such as small group homes where no more than four people live”. HCS is a program designed to be the least restrictive environment where individuals with intellectual disabilities have the opportunity to self direct services and quality of life.
Services We Offer
Individuals who chose to receive supervised living services have their own bedroom in a house within the community. During hours when individuals are home, a 24 hour wake staff is present to help assist with things like community outings, household chores, and meal preparation.
Host Home/Companion Care
Individuals who chose to receive Host Home/Companion Care services may have their own or a shared bedroom in house in the community in family type setting. This services provides the opportunity to be included in family life by participating in family activities and living together under the same roof. This can be with the individual’s natural family or any family/person who is contracted through us to provide care. The Host Home Provider is responsible for providing for all aspects of the individual’s needs and wants.
Supported Home Living
This service is available for individuals who live in their own home independently or if the individual lives in the family home. This is designed to be a support service where a staff person is available on a set schedule to provide assistance with activities of daily living, community outings, and habilitative activities such as assistance with meal preparation, budgeting, housekeeping, shopping.
Mike's Place Learning Center and Day Habilitation
Mike's Place is a day center where individuals can interact with his or her peers, increase socialization skills, work on increasing job skills, and participate in various arts/crafts projects. Mike's Place is open from 8:00 AM-4:00 PM. Day Habilitation is what this service is called in HCS and it is funded through the individual's plan of care when he or she is enrolled in HCS. Mike's Place does contract with other service providers so that individuals enrolled in programs such as CLASS, TxHmL, ICF-ID may also receive services and of course private pay for individuals not enrolled in any program.
